7 Hour CE Course
Diversity: Cultural Competence
Massage therapists are increasingly working in various medical settings - physician's offices, long term care facilities, hospitals - and the population of the United States continues to become more ethnically diverse. As a result, it is important that as health care providers working as part of a multi-disciplinary team we become more familiar with the cultural differences of our clients to become more sensitive to their perspective so that we may provide the best care. Additionally, it is important that we impart sensitivity to other cultures, and to our support staff, so that each person we are in contact with is treated with consideration.
Through this course you will:

Ethics: Therapeutic Relationships
This ethics program will provide you with a structure for ethical decision-making that will serve your clients, yourself, your profession and your community. State licensing boards and professional associations set forth professional codes of ethics to define standards of professional conduct that ensure the highest good for the client in our therapeutic relationships. The first step in practicing ethically is to become aware of these established regulations and to implement them within your professional practice.
Ethics within the health care profession is concerned with the establishment and maintenance of moral relationships between those individuals coming in for treatment, on the one hand, and the professional therapists rendering treatment, on the other. Together our personal and professional codes of ethics form the basis for our standards of ethical decision-making and resulting conduct.

Good course, most I knew as I work with many cultures, but I learned new info. It also reaffirmed that I am culturally sensitive and am doing all recommended suggestions/actions already.
Karin E. Kimbrough, LMT
Great text manual! The information covered is thorough and offers information specific to massage therapy and excellent resources to help massage therapists with Diversity issues. Well Done!
L. Lowry, LMT
This course raised my awareness of cultural differences that affect quality of health care in a massage practice. There were several specific examples given that I will remember for the future. Living in such a diverse area as metropolitan DC, this course was essential.
Barbara Thaler, LMT, NCTMB
This diversity course was useful and respectful without being condesending to the client or the practitioner's point of view.
Leslie Knee, LMT, NCTMB, ABMP
This course was a complete surprise to me. Having been in continuous practice as a medical massage therapist for 17 years now, I have taken many HIV/AIDs courses before and didn't expect anything different or new from this course. I was completely wrong and found this course exceptional and the best one of the subject I've ever taken! Thank you!
April Lee, LMT
May I say wow. I’ve taken 4 HIV classes since becoming a massage therapist. This was much, much better than any of them. Well writen, interesting, and compassionate without being sappy. Thank you for making this requirement enjoyable.
Teresa Luechtefeld, LMT, NCTMB

Dianna Bennett, LMT

W. Murphy, LMT, NCTMB, ABMP
I enjoyed this information. I found it very useful, as well as interesting. A lot of ethics courses I have taken and/or viewed in the past did not hold very much interest. They were not very exiting to study. I thoroughly enjoyed the style of this ethics course.
Traci Jennings, LMT
I have taken several ethics courses through the years with top presenters in the field. This course was the MOST educational, concise, helpful, thought-provoking class I have ever had in ethics. Total THUMBS UP! I think it should be used in every massage school curriculum.
