Persistent Vegetative State: To Live or Let Die

12 chapters
on-line

6 Hours in Ethics including 2 Hours in Standard V, Roles and Boundaries

Description: This online course was developed in collaboration with DIA Learning. The author, Gerard Magill, Ph.D., is a Professor and the Executive Director of the Center for Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University (Health Sciences). "PVS: To Live or Let Die" is an ethics course written for all health professionals, and it's especially appropriate for those who work in acute care environments. It provides an in-depth look at the complicated clinical, ethical, and legal issues involved in the highly publicized Terri Schiavo case. Expert physicians debate whether Terri was or was not in a persistent vegetative state. Prominent ethicists debate whether feeding and hydration should continue. Attorneys debate whether she should live or die. This 100% on-line course has 12 chapters, each consisting of a high quality on-line video documentary, a short essay to read on-line, and an on-line quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz and evaluation form, a certificate of completion can be downloaded and printed immediately.
