Sample Text

“When healthy tissue becomes active, it releases a number of metabolites which dilate the local arterioles. This dilation allows more nourishment to come into the tissue and facilitates the removal of wastes. However, the smooth muscles inside the arterioles' walls are also affected by the sympathetic nerves. These nerves cause contraction of the smooth muscles inside the arterioles' walls. The more sympathetic impulses that occur, the more intense the constriction becomes. Conversely, the fewer the sympathetic impulses, the more relaxed and dilated the arterioles become. (See Illustration 45)”
