Amazing book for a perfect time in my life - I'm 35, my grandmother just died and I'm using this book with my grandfather. Thank you!Heidi Newton, Spokane, WA
This course helps you to consider your own aging process as well as sharing the process with an elderGregory M. Satorie
The material was very informative and the author seemed very knowledgeable although the book itself seemed disorganized. Taking the test was confusing. Sometimes it seemed as if more than one answer was correct so you had to find the exact quote in the book.Carmen Rosypal
It is amazing how much this course/book has to offer. Aging has so many misconceptions in our culture and this book is a brilliant look at how to recognize and address them. It provides clear tools to help have a better perspective and improve communication skills with everyone. This course should be offered with all massage/nursing care-giver fields.Jalim Ritch, NCMT, LMT Portland, ME
Aging As A Shared Journey is an important book, it addresses issues of aging from birth to death. Its novel approach addresses much more than seniors. Excellent!James Allegretto, Madison, VA
I can see how this relates to my elderly clients, but I especially see how this information can relate to my life. (family, parents, friends)Katherine V. Albers, LMT

Sample Text
As time unfolds and people continue to work through the steps, they learn that recognizing and the other steps need to be repeated in a somewhat cyclical manner. Living is dynamic, not static. Old habits change, new behaviors are learned, and outmoded coping strategies give way to healthier ones as elders and the adults close to them embrace opportunities to live more vital, healthier lives.
Inventorying
EMPHASIZING A FOCUS ON WELLNESS AND HEALTH IS NOT A TECHNIQUE FOR GLOSSING OVER REAL PROBLEMS, BUT RATHER A WAY OF PUTTING THE WHOLE PERSON INTO PERPECTIVE.
It is important to make a realistic Inventory of one's personal aging, an assessment which does not cover up the problems and fears of aging with bright veneer of platitudes.

Emphasizing a focus on wellness and health is not a technique for glossing over real problems, but rather it is
- a way of attracting a positive outcome
- a way of putting the whole person into perspective
- a coping mechanism and it prevents sadness
- a way for the family to stay positive and strong
