“If the interruption in blood flow is temporary and minor, the damage is called ischemia. If cells die, the damage is called an infarct. An infarction is an area of tissue that dies when it does not receive enough blood flow. An infarction can occur in any body tissue, but it occurs most often in the brain and the heart due to their immediate need for large amounts of oxygen and nutrients.” from Holistic Pathology for Body-Centered Therapists (2002) by Sharon Burch, MSN, NCTMB
