New York Massage Therapy
Continuing Education Requirements
Massage therapy license requirements vary from state to state, and the laws are constantly changing. It's our current understanding that, in New York, the New York Board of Massage (Office of the Professions) passed new legislature that will require massage therapists to complete 36 CE hours every 3 years for license renewal beginning January 1, 2012.
Massage therapists may take only 12 of the total 36 continuing education hours required through home study programs by New York Board of Massage Approved Providers. Health Positive! is a division of the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies. The Institute is an Approved Provider of continuing education by the New York Board of Massage (#0012). Therefore, it is our understanding that the New York Board of Massage will accept any of our courses to satisfy the 12-hour home study option with the exception of courses related to appearance enhancement practices as defined by the Board, courses on animal massage, aromatherapy courses, marketing or business courses, or any courses in Reiki, Feldenkrais Method or The Alexander Technique.
If you would like to verify this information, or have further questions regarding your massage therapy continuing education requirements, we suggest contacting the New York Board of Massage directly. The telephone number for the New York Board is 518-474-3817 (extension 150) or visit their website at http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/mt/.
Remember, the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies is approved by the NCBTMB as a continuing education Approved Provider (#049478-00) and Health Positive! is a division of the Institute. All of our continuing education programs can be used for your National Certification renewal.
You may also use our credits for other organizations you belong to such as the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) or Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
