Florida Massage Therapy
Continuing Education Requirements
Massage therapy license requirements vary from state to state, and the laws are constantly changing. It's our current understanding that, in Florida, 24 massage therapy continuing education credits plus at least 1 credit in a course on HIV/AIDS, are required every 2 years for license renewal by August 31st of each odd-numbered year.
Health Positive! (under the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies) is an Approved Provider for the Florida Board of Massage (#50-1017) and all of the Institute and Health Positive! programs have been individually approved by the Florida Board as well. EXCEPTION: The Florida Board will not approve the Therapeutic Techniques of Deep Tissue Massage: Part II course, due to the total length of video included. All other programs are approved by the Board.
In addition to a continuing education course covering HIV/AIDs, the remaining 24 hours must include:
- At least 2 hours in Professional Ethics, which may be taken through home study programs
- At least 2 hours in the prevention of Medical Errors, which may be taken through home study programs
- At least 2 hours in Florida Laws and Rules, which may be taken through home study programs
- At least 12 hours of live training through courses relevant to massage therapy techniques, history of massage, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology and/or pathology
- The remaining hours can be in topics of your choice, which may be taken through our home study programs
If you would like to verify this information, or have further questions regarding your massage therapy continuing education requirements, we suggest contacting the Florida Board of Massage directly. The telephone number for the Florida Board is 850-245-4161 or visit their website at http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa.
Remember, the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies is approved by the NCBTMB as a continuing education Approved Provider (#049478-00) and Health Positive! is a division of the Institute. All of our continuing education programs can be used for your National Certification renewal.
You may also use our credits for other organizations you belong to such as the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) or Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
